Day 6-Cozumel

We set an alarm to wake us up this morning so we could venture out in Cozumel at a reasonable time before lunch. It apparently stormed there overnight with the ground still wet and sky still overcast. The weather did improve during the day and provided us with some beautiful blue waters. Oh, and it’s Cinco de Mayo today. Not really a big deal in Mexico though.

We still made time to eat breakfast in the main dining room. Amy and I both enjoyed the monster French toast along with a ham and cheese omelette. Looking out the window we saw another Royal Caribbean ship, Allure of the Seas, parked next to us. We have sailed on Allure before. It’s a huge ship and holds about 1,500 more passengers than our ship, Liberty. We will be sailing on Allure’s sister ship (same size/design), Oasis, with the kids next year.

After breakfast we got off the ship and decided to walk downtown to the shops which is ~3 miles. We saw a lot of interesting Mexican scenery along the way. There was a movie theater with shows listed for you to try and translate. There’s a handful of stores with deals through the cruise lines to hand out small freebies to guests from the ships. Amy ended up with quite a collection of “charms”.

On our walk back, the sun was out strong and we needed a little pick-me-up. We decided to stop in this Mega store. It turns out to be pretty much a Mexican Walmart. We bought 2 bottles of soda for the walk back for 9.5 pesos each. The cashier said it costs a total of $1 US. Only 50 cents for a bottle of soda! Maybe we should have looked at more things in this Mega store.

We had to walk on this rotting plywood ramp to a dock to take this photo in front of the ships. Amy was not a fan.
Our walk back:

We were exhausted after that hot walk back to the pier. The food and drink at the Windjammer buffet was calling our name. I used the salad station to have them prep me a chicken and shrimp Cesar salad.

Our afternoon included some trivia games. The first one was Dingbats trivia that Amy and I killed on and won some ship swag. Our second trivia was identifying pictures of famous couples. We came in second on that one. Actually Amy came in second, I just watched her write the answers down.

Tonight was our second and last formal night. As we enjoyed our free drinks in the rich people lounge, our ship pulled away from the dock and Allure passengers waved us goodbye.

We had another headliner show tonight. This one was from Vegas and played trumpet and sang. We weren’t too impressed.

We were given each a “free pull” in the casino. I walked away winning a keychain, woohoo!

Tomorrow is our last full day on the ship and it will be a sea day. We will have to try and find the nice balance of doing all the activities we want and resting. Our headlining show will be the broadway show of Saturday Night Fever. I’m writing this tonight while watching “The Magnificent Seven” by the pool.
