Today is Ethan’s birthday!
Due to our late night last night we woke up later than planned this morning (9am). We didn’t have much planned for early in the day so sleeping in was just fine with me. It’s easy to stay sleeping in a room that can be almost completely dark anytime. When we left to go to the Windjammer for breakfast we saw other cruise guests have left birthday wishes on Ethan and Hannah’s door board. Their room attendant was passing by and saw that it was Ethan’s birthday and added some door decor for the occasion.
After eating a late breakfast we decided to try a Royal Mystery which is an escape room experience without the actual room. The ship has an escape room but I think our kids aren’t old enough and it cost $20 a person. This was free. We joined up with a couple from Alabama to make a team of 6. There were many different types of things to solve and we were given 45 minutes to do so. We solved every puzzle except for the last one so we just guessed at the answer and were wrong. Out of the ~15 teams only one actually solved it.
After the puzzle it was time to visit the sports deck and pool area. Being the only sea day on our trip, it was noticeable that everyone is trying to squeeze in the same activities. Despite this ship having 2000 less people than the Oasis class ship, it feels more crowded on sea days than the larger ship. The bigger ships just have more places for people to disperse to. Today almost everyone was at the water activities (slide, pools, etc). We still were able to fit in a few things like going down the slide once (after waiting in line ~20min). Plus we watched the cruise standard Belly Flop competition. We had a hard time finding a spot to watch from (as mentioned earlier). Hannah and I stood and watched. Amy and Ethan finally settled on watching the screen from a hot tub.
After lunch Hannah wanted to catch the ice show again so her and Amy went to that. Then there was Logo Trivia. We got there 10min early but the place was already packed and we ended up standing at a counter. We flew through most of the logos but there were a few we just didn’t know. We saw our puzzle couple from earlier so we combined efforts but still came up 2 short.
Dinner time was busy for us tonight. Right before dinner was family science night where we made volcanos. Then at the same start time as our dinner was family karaoke. I stayed with the kids to watch them sing while Amy took our orders and headed to the main dining room to get that started. Hannah and Ethan quickly chose the first song they knew and were the first singers. They sang Call Me Maybe. Then off to dinner.
At dinner we were treated to the wait staff singing and marching. Also our staff sang happy birthday to Ethan and gave him a slice of cake. That was in addition to the 2 desserts he already ordered.
After we were busy. First we went straight up to the pool deck to watch the Spider-Man movie. Then was the Silent Disco. We each received headphones with controls on them to switch between the “green” station or “blue”. This way people can be dancing to different songs and at their own volume. We got our groove on for a while. Ethan was really into it. He even went up to the window and danced for the whole pool deck.
From dancing we headed to the theater for the headliner which was a comedian juggler. He was entertaining. Had Ethan laughing pretty good. They also had the ship singers and dancers perform during the show. I haven’t been impressed with this ship’s singers. On the way to the show I spotted the traveling pianist. You can find him in elevators performing. After the show it was time for bed.
